PIFpeople (Pay It Forward) How It Started

PIFpeople – Pay it Forward

In 2010 I received an email called “Today” (included below) and, for some unknown reason, I added the last statement before printing. I put that printout in a shoe box that contained various items I used in developing an invention I was working on. Three days a week I would take that shoe box to a local buffet so I could “tinker” after eating… but would read that “Today” list first.

One day after lunch I was strolling through a popular home improvement store, searching for an “item” I needed, when I noticed lady on a cell phone that appeared to be overwhelmed and in need of a little help. I thought to myself, “okay, you say you are going to

‘Pay it Forward’,

but what are you actually doing!?”  So I paused behind her, as she turned around… I asked, “do you need help?” She nodded and handed me her cell phone. Her brother-in-law explained the items he required to finish installing a water-heater (he thought he was talking to an employee 😉   As the lady and I walked up and down the isles retrieving the needed items, she asked me why I stopped to help her. I told her of the “Today” list and of the line I added at the bottom. She said, “I’m going to pay it forward too!”

As I drove away my thoughts were focused on how I could find ways of helping others to perform Random Acts of Kindness…

That brief encounter, and the statement I added at the bottom of the “Today” list, were among the catalysts that compelled me to develop PIFpeople, PIFcards, and to promote Pay It Forward & Random Acts of Kindness activities…

Here is that email printout:

———————————————————————————-

Today I will delete from my diary two days: yesterday and tomorrow.  Yesterday was to learn and tomorrow will be the consequence of what I can do today

Today I will face life with the conviction that this day will not ever return

Today is the last opportunity I have to live intensely; as no one can assure me that I will see tomorrow’s sunrise

Today I will be brave enough not to let any opportunity pass me by, my only alternative is to succeed

Today I will invest my most valuable resource: my time, in the most transcendental work: my life

I will spend each minute passionately to make of today a different and unique day in my life

Today I will defy every obstacle that appears on my way trusting I will succeed

Today I will resist pessimism and I will conquer the world with a smile, with the positive attitude of expecting always the very best

Today I will make of every ordinary task a sublime expression

Today I will have my feet on the ground understanding reality and the stars’ gaze to invent my future

Today I will take the time to be happy and will leave my footprints and my presence in the hearts of others

Today I will find ways to “Pay it Forward”

pay it forward? pay it forward… pay it forward!

kindness – kindness
